The Biggest Announcements From Google’s 2019 Pixel Event Article
Google has announced the successors to its Pixel 3 and 3 XL devices in the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL.

If you’re searching for a smartphone with a good camera, there’s no doubt you’ve seen Google’s Pixel series on a list of recommendations. The Pixel 4 is shaping up to be the most ambitious smartphone Google has ever launched. Exciting new features, ranging from secure face unlock, to the ability to control the device with air gestures, and a 90Hz display, have made us quite excited for the handset's reveal.

In their relatively short time as flagship phones, Google's Pixels have made a mark with their superior cameras and computational photography. The Google Pixel 4 arrives alongside its larger sibling, the Google Pixel 4 XL, and offers up a cocktail of flagship photography features, including machine learning and other AI wizardry. Pixel 4 and 4 XL hands-on: Motion Sense and improved Night Sight make this the phone of the future. Google started off by talking about its Soli radar chip, which it says enables gestures that you can use to command the phone without actually touching it.

Google’s Pixel 4 uses hybrid digital and optical zoom with both its lenses. It’s shipping with four new features: Live HDR Plus, allowing you to see what your photo, complete with the HDR effect, will look like after processing.

The camera app offers dual-exposure controls, allowing you to adjust brightness and shadows so you can get the look that you’re aiming for.

Pixel 4 is introducing learning-based white balance into its camera system. This feature works to continuously improve color in your images, even in extremely bad light. Google is specifically targeting low-light and yellow light and used Sodium Vapor light as an example of something it’s trying to fix, but is aiming to get perfect white balance every time.

The front of the Pixel 4 in the OnLeaks render features an earpiece in the top center, which could mean the return of the notch Google introduced with the Pixel 3 XL last year. The renders also show speaker grills on either side of the USB-C port.

Google Pixel 4 price and release date

The Pixel 4 starts at $799 and the Pixel 4 XL will start at $899, both with 64GB of storage. You can upgrade to 128GB of storage on both phones for an extra $100. So the Pixel 4 with 128GB costs $899 and the Pixel 4 XL with 128GB costs $999. Overall, the Pixel 4 is an exciting new Android flagship that should give the iPhone 11 and the Galaxy Note 10 a run for their money.

The devices are available to pre-order from 15 October and they will be available to buy on 24 October. Shipping will be from 21 October.

The company also announced new Pixel Buds, a Pixelbook Go and the Google Nest Mini during the event.
